FAQ |
| Q How did Cooperstown get it's name? |
| A From James Fenimore Cooper. Born
in 1789 in Burlington NJ, died in 1851, Mr. Cooper was the first major
American novelist publishing more than 50 works. His first successful title
was the novel "The Spy" (1821) but his most memorable works were in a series
entitled The Leatherstocking Tales. Although fictitious, the descriptive
details of the settings describe the surroundings of modern day Cooperstown
perfectly. The area hasn't changed much at all. Required reading
prior to your visit to Cooperstown includes:
Deerslayer (1841), The Last of the Mohicans (1826), The Pathfinder (1840), The Pioneers (1823), and The Prairie (1827). |
