July 20th  2005

Third year in a row for veteran long distance swimmer Dennis Hannon! Dennis lives and trains in Arizona and visits family here in Cooperstown during the summer.

Not content to sit around and look at the lake, Dennis swims it. This year on July 20th Dennis swam from the south end to the north end, getting out to an excited crowd of youngsters at the Springfield Landing.

Dennis posted a time of 4 hours and 43 minutes and 43 seconds,. Not bad for a 61 year old, and a record for the most repeated swims!

Dennis's name will be added to the Cooperstown Athletic Club  official swim plaque which resides at the Clark Sports Center.

CAC spokesperson and head bottlewasher, Angus Mackie, says that CAC is sure there will be several attemps to swim the Lake during the 2005 season, which in Cooperstown, can last up to a full week (just kidding, you know the old joke about Cooperstown having 9 months of winter and 3 months of bad skiing?)

The lake is swim is usually attempted in August and measures 9 miles from the Springfield Landing to the Cooperstown Lakefront docks. anyone interested in making the swim should contact Angus Mackie at angus@rbs2000.com
