August 14th was one of the few sunny and calm days of the 2004 Cooperstown summer season. Swimming for the benefit of the Healing Arts Program, sponsored by the Glimmerglass Foundation of Exeter, NH, four area swimmers swam the nine miles of Lake Otsego with Brian McCann setting a new male youth record, 4hrs, 12 minutes.

The swim was organized by Beth Kerr, the organizer of the Glimmerglass Foundation. This was Beths second swim of Lake Otsego.

July 2004

In his second swim in as many years, 60 year old Dennis Hannon finished the lake Otsegao swim on July 14th, 2004 in  4 hr 50 minutes. Dennis lives and trains in Arizona, and has relatives in the Cooperstown area.

 

 
 
 

 

August 2003

Twelve year old Helen Zaengle of Cooperstown NY, holds the Cooperstown Athletic Club Lake Otsego Swim Plaque, commemorating her 2003 record setting swim. The youngest person to swim the lake, Helen recorded the third fasted womens time, 4 hours and 48 minutes.

     Helen says she and a few friends may try to swim the lake again this year. The swim plaque is on display at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown.

The Cooperstown Athletic Club mainatins the plaque and adds about three new names per year. 

     CAC spokesperson and head bottlewasher, Angus Mackie, says that CAC is sure there will be several attemps to swim the Lake during the 2004 season, which in Cooperstown, can last up to a full week (just kidding, you know the old joke about Cooperstown having 9 months of winter and 3 months of bad skiing?) 

     The lake is swim is usually attempted in August and measures 9 miles from the Springfield Landing to the Cooperstown Lakefront docks. anyone interested in making the swim should contact Angus Mackie at angus@rbs2000.com
